Glory Westfield W-League Head Coach Alex Epakis has been quick to praise Lily Alfeld after the goalkeeper was named as one of the nominees for the PFA Player of the Month Award for December/January.

The club’s disjointed early-season fixture list has not prevented the 25-year-old New Zealander from making an immediate impact in what is her maiden campaign in the competition.

The acrobatic shot-stopper has already twice taken out the Save of the Week Award and Epakis revealed the she has been an equally positive influence off the pitch.

How many games did she play in that period to be nominated?”, he said.

“I think it was two and that says it all.

“It speaks volumes about the impact that she’s had on the squad.

“Lily is a fantastic goalkeeper and more importantly, a fantastic person who has brought a lot of good stability and leadership to the group and I’m just so proud to see her acknowledged for that.

“Now, with this big run home, we’re going to see even more of her quality.”

Alfeld and the rest of the Glory squad will make a welcome return to Westfield W-League action on Thursday with a trip to Marconi Stadium to take on Western Sydney Wanderers.

Kick-off is at 4.10pm WST.
