Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Diego Castro has re-signed with the club.

The Spanish star has put pen to paper on a one-year deal that will extend his hugely-successful spell in the West to a fourth season.

The former Malaga, Getafe and Sporting Gijon midfielder has racked up 75 appearances for the club since arriving in 2015, scoring 32 goals and contributing numerous assists in the process.

He took out the Johnny Warren Medal at the end of his debut season and has twice claimed the Most Glorious Player Award.

And the man nicknamed ‘El Maestro’ is confident that both he and the team can shine again in the 2018-19 campaign.

“Firstly, I would like to thank everybody, my family too, for coming back here for another year,” Castro said.

“A big part of my re-signing came after speaking with the coach. I want to learn as much as I can from Tony Popovic.

“It’s a new and exciting season for everybody. I think the goal is clear, we want to win trophies and I want to be a part of that in this new era.”

New Head Coach Tony Popovic and Football Director Jacob Burns are delighted to have Castro return to Glory determined for success. Diego will arrive back in Perth ready for a full pre-season in early July.

“It’s a great first piece of business and he’s hungry to work under the new regime with Popovic,” Burns said.

“Castro is one of our greatest legacy players, his record and accolades speak for themselves. He insists there is some unfinished business after last season and wants to bring some silverware to the club.”

Further player announcements are expected in the very near future.
