Diego Castro joined Perth Glory as a marquee player on 6 August, 2015.

Prior to the move to Australia, Castro had spent his entire career in his native Spain. Starting in the Segunda Division B with Pontevdera as a teenager, the talented attacking threat moved on to Malaga, appearing 90 times for Malaga B, and twice for the senior squad, including a match against Real Madrid.

From Malaga, he relocated to Sporting Gijon. After two very successful seasons in the Segunda Division, Castro was instrumental in Sporting’s promotion to La Liga. In his first full season in La Liga, Castro scored 6 goals in 32 matches. He built on that success, scoring 10 goals the following season, appearing in 35 of his team’s 38 matches.

With 30 goals through 170 appearances with Sporting Gijon, it was time to move on when Getafe came calling in the summer of 2011. He spent the next four seasons with the La Liga mainstays, scoring 18 times in 129 appearances.

Castro made his A-League debut on 10 October, 2015 against Central Coast Mariners. He scored in his 3rd match of the season against Adelaide United on a perfectly crafted counter attack.
