DEFLECTED Goal sends Wanderers Top

A deflected second half goal to Aaron Mooy was enough to give the Western Sydney Wanderers a 1-0 win over Perth Glory at a rain soaked Parramatta Stadium

A deflected second half goal to Aaron Mooy was enough to give the Western Sydney Wanderers a 1-0 win over Perth Glory at a rain soaked Parramatta Stadium.

The narrow win also sent the Wanderers to the top of the Hyundai A-League table for the first time, as the Glory squandered a number of chances in the final ten minutes to snatch a draw.

“The game swung about in periods, they started off the game really well but we weathered the storm and got back on top towards the end, “ Perth Glory forward Travis Dodd said.

“What let us down tonight was our passing and the little things that we did well last week.”

Liam Miller and substitutes Matias Cordoba and Ryo Nagai all had good chances to equalise for Perth Glory late in the game but their attempts failed to beat the well drilled Wanderers defence.

In tough, wet conditions, Mooy-s 58th minute goal proved to be decisive as the midfielders strike deflected off Perth Glory defender Michael Thwaite and past ‘keeper Danny Vukovic.

Despite the loss, Dodd said he-s still confident that Perth Glory can reach the finals this season with five games to go.

“We still have everything to play for.

“There is still hope for us and we have to believe we can win enough games to reach the finals.
