Chianese returns for more Glory

Joel Chianese re-signs

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Joel Chianese has returned to the club for the remainder of the A-League 2020/21 Season.

The 31-year-old forward departed Glory last year to sign for Indian Super League side, Hyderabad FC having previously made 87 A-League appearances in purple during a four-season stint here in the West.

Among the highlights of Chianese’s Glory career was his successful penalty which decided the unforgettable 2019 Semi-Final against Adelaide United at HBF Park and he is keen to experience more such moments over the next few months.

“I’m really excited to be able to finish the season with Glory,” he said.

“I’ve had a great history at this club and I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the squad and staff to help us push towards the Finals again.”

Glory Head Coach Richard Garcia, meanwhile, is relishing the prospect of seeing the Premiership winner resume his Glory career.

“We know all about Joel’s ability and what he brings to the side on and off the field, so it’s great to have him back at the club,” he said.

“His return increases the strength in depth and level of experience within our squad which will be a major boost as our hectic schedule, including the five home games in 16 days, continues.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Glory Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata.

“It’s fantastic to have a player of Joel’s proven pedigree coming on board at this crucial stage of the season,” he said.

“He understands exactly what the club is all about and I’m sure our Members and fans will be delighted to see such a talented and popular player returning to the Glory fold.”

Chianese, who made 12 appearances for Hyderabad FC last year, scoring three goals and providing two assists, will wear the number 11 shirt for Glory this season and has been added to the squad for Tuesday evening’s away clash with Newcastle Jets.
