Carnarvon trip cancelled

Perth Glory has been advised to cancel tomorrow’s three day visit to Carnarvon due to the extreme weather conditions forecast for the region.

Perth Glory has been advised to cancel tomorrow-s three day visit to Carnarvon due to the extreme weather conditions forecast for the region.

The decision was made by event organisers in consultation with the bureau of meteorology.

“It-s a huge disappointment we can-t fulfil our commitment to the people of Carnarvon but our thoughts are again with these people over the next few days,” Perth Glory Chief Executive Paul Kelly said.

“We were deeply saddened by the devastation caused in December from the floods and now pray the region does not suffer similar damage.

“Our immediate wishes are with all the families and businesses in Carnarvon.”

Local MP Vincent Catania MLA thanked Perth Glory, Football West, Chevron Australia and Bankwest -major sponsors of the event – for their support but said the grim weather forecast made the visit impossible.

“This is another blow for the Gascoyne, we have been through so much already,” Catania said.

“We knew that the road to recovery would be long, but to have another weather event impact on us so soon is going be tough for a lot of people.

“This event will be postponed, but the people of the Gascoyne, now more than ever will need the support of fellow Western Australians.

“We will hold this event in the future making it even bigger than what was planned and ensure that our communities do have a big community event to look forward to.”

Perth Glory and Football West are currently assessing all options to provide support to the region and will release details in due course.
