Big guns return for Reds clash

Socceroo Josh Risdon and Hungarian import Gyorgy Sandor will be welcome additions for Kenny Lowe and his troops when Perth Glory FC heads to Adelaide to take on United at Coopers Stadium this weekend.

Sandor returns to the squad after a month’s absence following an ankle injury he sustained from a clash at training, while Risdon, shoudl he play, will boost depth and experience in defence.

“It’s not definite, they’ll both undergo a fitness test on Friday before we fly out and hopefully our medical team gives them the thumbs up” said Lowe.

Risdon suffered a thigh injury (cork) in the 0-0 draw against Sydney FC two weeks ago and was not available during last week’s loss to Melbourne City.

Lowe said while injuries had hurt the side in recent weeks, it was no excuse.

“You got to defend correctly and we didn’t. We created enough chances (against City) to score goals but we were poor in both boxes and that’s the reason we got beat, we weren’t good enough in the attacking box and we weren’t good enough in the defending box. It’s very basic and it’s very simple” he said.

Lowe admitted this Sunday’s clash against the bottom side was an opportunity to get three valuable points on the table.

“It goes without saying, but they’re a good side. They’ve been at the top of the competition for the past couple of years. They’ve got no injuries and for one reason or another they are where they are. But make no mistake it’s going to be a very tough match”.

Football Federation Australia has rescheduled the match due to extreme heat conditions.

It was originally scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm Adelaide time but with the mercury set to peak around 40 degrees the FFA decided to delay the kick-off to 7pm (ACDT).

“I think it’s good that common sense has prevailed” Lowe said.

“It shows that they’re starting to think about stuff which is really good for the players, the fans and hopefully for the spectacle as well”.

Glory returns to nib Stadium on Saturday December 12 to face Central Coast Mariners in what will be a huge threee-game week in the Festive Feast of Football. which will include matches again Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers.
