Battle of the Sheds

THEY may share a name but fans of Chelsea FC and Perth Glory will find no common ground in the stands when their teams go head-to-head at Perth Stadium in mid-2018.

At every home game, die-hard supporters from both Chelsea and Perth Glory chant out at their rivals from “The Shed”. Chelsea fans sit in the Shed End at Stamford Bridge and the Perth faithful in the Glory Shed at nib Stadium

Come mid-2018 there will be a Shed at both ends of Perth Stadium, with the East being transformed into the Shed End for Chelsea fans and the West a home base for the Glory Shed.

One of the world’s most popular football clubs with an estimated global fan base of over 400 million, Chelsea Football Club has confirmed they will play an Australia-exclusive match against Perth Glory at Perth Stadium in July or August next year, in front of an anticipated sellout crowd of 65,000.

With both supporter groups steeped in the tradition of passionate support for their clubs, the atmosphere will be electric inside the cauldron that is the new Perth Stadium.

With seven finals apperances under their belt since their inception in 1995, Glory is no stranger to the big occassion having won, two championships, three premierships and more recently qualifying for two FFA Cup finals (2014, 2015)

Chelsea fans have been treated to blockbuster after blockbuster with their club asserting itself as one of the most successful Premier League outfits of the past 15 years, winning 13 major titles since 2002. The Blues are currently sitting pretty at the top of the English Premier League ladder and their games regularly sell out, their match in Perth is sure to be one of the hottest tickets in town.

In a deal struck by Tourism Western Australia – in partnership with Stadium operator VenuesLive the Chelsea visit will include open training sessions at the Stadium, allowing as many football fans as possible to get up close and personal to the stars.

“We were delighted with the reception we received in Sydney when we visited in 2015, and now we can look forward to the same in Perth.

“We anticipate an excellent match against Perth Glory in what promises to be a fantastic new venue for Western Australia.”

“This will be Chelsea’s only match in Australia during the Hyundai A-League pre-season campaign and will play an important role in Perth Glory’s preparations for the 2018/19 season.”
