Academy put five past Floreat

Jake Brimmer helped himself to a double as the PGFC Academy side enjoyed a spectacular 5-1 win over Floreat Athena at E&D Litis Stadium on Saturday.

Daniel Stynes and Joe Knowles also found the net, while Jamie Street put through his own goal as John Gibson’s side hit five for the second time this season to consolidate their position in the top three of the NPL WA table.

As they have on several occasions this term, Glory secured the win after falling behind early, Phil Arnold getting the hosts off to the best possible start by calmly slotting past Jackson Lee with just seven minutes on the clock.

Jacob Italiano teed Daniel Stynes up for his third goal of the season to ensure that the scores were locked at the break, however and in the second half, the visitors ran away with it.

Street’s own-goal handed Glory the lead shortly after the re-start and then Brimmer took centre stage, first beating Jason Saldaris in the Athena goal with a long-range strike and following that up by finding the top corner with another of his trademark pinpoint free-kicks.

Joe Knowles has also been in fine goalscoring form in recent weeks and got on the scoresheet once again by adding Glory’s fifth right at the death.

The result means that the Academy side have now won four of their six game so far this term and are set for a mouth-watering Round 7 clash with ladder leaders Bayswater City at Ashfield Arena on Saturday (kick off at 3pm).

Earlier in the day, the Under-18s continued their superb start to the season by securing a 5-3 win, while the Under-20s were edged out 3-2.
