Academy First Team secure stylish win over ECU

NPL 2021 - Glory v ECU - players celebrate goal

Ciaran Bramwell, Jack Andrews and Adam Zimarino all found the net as the PGFC Academy First Team maintained their impressive recent run of form by downing ECU Joondalup 3-0 in Saturday’s NPL WA clash at Crazy Domains Stadium, Hartfield Park.

The result propelled Ruben Zadkovich’s side back into the top four at the expense of their opponents and avenged the defeat the Glory youngsters suffered against the Jacks at The Campus back in May.

The First Team came into the game having lost just once in their ten previous outings and were set on their way by Bramwell who fired them into the lead in the 18th minute, turning cleverly on the edge of the box and drilling a pinpoint shot into the bottom corner.

Former Glory man Riley Woodcock did manage to hit the woodwork towards the end of the first half, but that was a rare threatening moment for the visitors in an opening 45 minutes largely dominated by the hosts.

Glory continued to look the more likely once the second half got underway and almost doubled their advantage five minutes in, Zimarino seeing his free-kick superbly parried by John Perkins in the ECU goal.

They were not to be denied moments later, however, Colli’s corner flashing its way across the face of goal to the far post where Andrews was on hand to stab the ball home.

And the result was effectively sealed 19 minutes from time when the in-form Zimarino was sent in on goal by Bramwell and crashed an angled shot into the roof of the net having seen his initial effort blocked by Perkins at full-stretch.

Glory continued to pour forward in the latter stages and came close to securing an even more emphatic margin of victory as substitutes Andrew Maranta and Tyler Vecchio both struck the woodwork.

The three points completed an impressive clean sweep for the Academy sides on the day, with the Under-18s winning 2-0 and the Under-20s consolidating top spot courtesy of a 4-1 victory.
