Academy First Team extend unbeaten run

NPL 2021 - Glory v Armadale - Ciaran Bramwell heads home

The PGFC Academy First Team extended their unbeaten run in the NPL WA to six games on Friday evening as Ciaran Bramwell’s fine first-half header secured a 1-1 home draw with Armadale SC.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side were forced to come from behind against a combative and industrious Armadale outfit who were rewarded for a strong start when Nathan Costello bundled home from a corner.

Five minutes later, however, Joseph Forde’s deep cross picked out Bramwell and his powerful header found the bottom corner.

There were chances aplenty throughout a lively encounter, with Cameron Cook in the Glory goal called into action as early as the fourth minute to deny Chad Nilson.

Cook was also equal to a fierce strike from Angel Andres Silvera before his opposite number, Michael Craggs, did well to keep Jack Andrews at bay at the other end.

The second half continued in a similar vein and after Nilson struck the woodwork for the visitors with 12 minutes left, it was Glory who finished on the front foot.

The hosts were initially awarded a penalty when Charlie Leech went down in the box, but the decision was overturned following a discussion between the referee and his assistant and with almost the last kick of the game, Andrew Maranta crashed a shot against the bar.

The result saw the youngsters slip to fifth in the table, but they can reclaim a top-four spot on Saturday with a win over ECU Joondalup at Crazy Domains Stadium, Hartfield Park (kick-off at 3pm).

In the weekend’s other games, meanwhile, the Under-18s also fought out a 1-1 draw and the Under-20s secured a spectacular 9-2 win.

Next Saturday’s action against ECU Joondalup gets underway at 11am with the Under-18s and the Under-20s then kick-off at 1pm ahead of the First Team at 3pm.
