Williams ecstatic with Glory's clean sheet

Perth defender Rhys Williams was delighted to have registered a clean sheet after Glory smashed Adelaide United 5-0 in Harvey Norman Friday Night Football at Coopers Stadium.

On a hot night in Adelaide, Glory outclassed the Reds to continue their upsurge in form.

Perth's win puts pressure on Melbourne City as Glory now jump into fourth spot, one point ahead of City before their crucial clash with third-placed Roar on Saturday night.

And with Williams in strong form on the night and now seemingly back in the side, Glory have a steelier look about them down back.

“To come here to the champions and win 5-0 and keep a clean sheet is brilliant for us,” he told Fox Sports after the game.

“It’s hard to get a game here,” he added of the defensive depth at Perth.

Perth Glory players celebrate one of their five goals against Adelaide on Friday night.

And adding to a memorable night for the club and player, Williams’ younger brother Aryn, 23, came on as a substitute making Friday night the first time they’d played on the pitch together in a professional game.

“He [Aryn] did his job well when he came on and he can take credit for the clean sheet as well,” added the Caltex Socceroo defender.

Due to the heat, the game’s kick off was delayed by an hour with two drinks breaks added to the proceedings.

Williams revealed he was cramping up after sixty minutes but battled through the pain - it was emblematic of a committed defensive performance from Kenny Lowe's men.

“These boys have stuck by me, they haven’t let anything get between me and them,” Williams added, referring to his spell out of the Glory squad, which sparked some talk of a move away from the club.
