Perth Glory youth are preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime as they go head-to-head with Gold Coast United in the 2009/10 National Youth League grand final.
After a well-deserved win over Adelaide United at Clipsal Stadium yesterday, Perth’s young guns will now look ahead to this weekend, when they play the curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League grand final on Saturday.
Outstanding young talent, Tommy Amphlett says the win was fantastic for the boys, who were feeling disappointed after not finishing the league on top the previous week.
“It was such a good feeling to win and I think we deserve to be here after the season we’ve had.
“After missing out on winning the league last week, this gave us the chance to make a mends and get into the grand final.
“At half time Gareth said ‘your 45 minutes away from the opportunity of a lifetime.’
“A final like this doesn’t come around very often and with a majority of the A-League coaches watching us, it’s a good opportunity for a lot of the lads as well,” Amphlett said.
The young striker, who has had a brilliant season making appearances for both the youth and A-League teams, was originally signed as an injury replacement player before his impressive performances guaranteed he became a permanent fixture for Perth.
Amphlett was instrumental at right wing in yesterday’s match and says the squad were extremely happy with their performance and excited for the next challenge.
“Everyone was really chuffed after the game but there is still another hard week at training to come and another game to play.
“It will be even better if we win next Saturday but as I said it’s just a great chance for everyone involved.
“There’s just one game left, in front of a really good crowd and at a great stadium so it’s all there for the taking,” Amphlett said.
