Tuesday the 25th of April is ANZAC Day, one of our great nation’s most important national commemorative occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
It is on this special day that we remember the many young Australian and New Zealand lives lost on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915. The meaning of Anzac Day today includes the remembrance of all Australians killed in military operations protecting our nation.
Perth Glory Football Club would like to honour this special occasion and all those who have served our nation by auctioning off five limited edition and signed jerseys worn in this season’s 2016/17 Hyundai A-League Remembrance Round 6 in November 2016.
Each signed jersey contains a red poppy emblem. Red poppies were among the first to flower in the devastated battlefields of northern France and Belgium in the First World War. In soldiers' folklore, the vivid red of the poppy came from the blood of their comrades soaking the ground.
All proceeds raised from the auction of these jerseys will be donated to the Returned Services League of Western Australia (RSL WA).
